According to the WHO there is massive under reporting taking place in the fatal infection of AIDS. In fact there are many more AIDS cases than the governments of the region are willing to acknowledge openly.

"It is estimated that less that 25 % of the total AIDS cases have been reported," said Uton Muchtar Rafei, regional director, WHO. This fact was mentioned in the progress report presented at the WHO regional meeting in Dhaka.

The report says there are over 92000 reported cases of AIDS in the region, mostly from India, Thailand and Myanmar.
