French Fries - Can they be dangerous ?

A recent Swedish Government Study found  that high levels of a carcinogen Acrylamide was present in fatty starchy foods cooked at high temperature as in the case of fries. This study showed that deep fried food could be a cause of cancer.

In one test, MacDonald's French fries were found to contain 300 times the amount of Acrylamide allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency for a glass of water.

Two environmental groups have notified California's Attorney General of their intent to sue under California's Proposition 65, which requires manufacturers to warn consumers of toxic chemicals in their products. They plan to sue McDonalds and the Burger King to force them to put  a toxic warning label on their servings of the deep fried  potato chips. The group wants the sellers to either include the warning aor reformulate the ingredients.

The report appeared in Times.
