A team of South Korean scientists today claimed a break through in developing DNA vaccines to protect human being from virus that leads to AIDS. There are plans to start human trails of the vaccine in france next year. But it is too early to say that this vaccine is capable of protecting human beings.

This vaccine has been produced by using genes from an HIV like virus found only in monkeys. This vaccine protected completely monkeys against the virus called SIV-239. It is the first time that apes have been protected after being challenged by SIV-239. It is generally admitted among the scientist that should a vaccine protect monkeys against SIV-239, it would be highly possible that the vaccine would also protect human beings against HIV. Still it is too early to predict that the vaccine will be effective in fighting human AIDS.
